You will receive the exact beads shown in the photographs.
Each bead is annealed in a digitally controlled kiln to ensure its lasting strength and durability. I take great care to clean, inspect, and package each bead with the same attention to detail that goes into making them. I hope you enjoy incorporating them into your own distinctive jewelry designs!
A little bit about lampwork beads and why they are so special…
Lampwork beads are handmade glass beads created through a centuries-old technique called lampworking. This process involves melting rods of colorful glass with a special torch, and then winding the molten glass around a steel rod to form the basic bead shape. Once the bead is formed, it can be further embellished using various techniques and materials, creating unique, one-of-a-kind designs.
The term “lampwork” comes from the traditional use of oil lamps as the heat source during the beadmaking process. Though modern torches are now used, the term “lampwork” continues to honor this historical technique.
To ensure the beads’ strength and durability, they are carefully cooled in a kiln where temperatures are closely controlled. The beadmaker “soaks” the beads at a high temperature to ensure even heating, and then slowly reduces the temperature over several hours to bring the beads to room temperature. This process, known as kiln annealing, makes the beads strong and durable, ready for use in your jewelry creations.
