This set includes two lampwork beads, perfect for creating elegant earrings. The beads feature a rich rust-colored base glass, beautifully enhanced with both fine silver sheet and wire, which create delicate silver droplets around the beads. These beads have a timeless, earthy appeal and will be a stunning addition to any jewelry design. Each bead measures approximately 7x13mm, with hole sizes of 3/32″ (2.4mm). They will arrive carefully packaged to ensure safe delivery.
You will receive the exact beads shown in the photographs.
The beads are annealed in a digitally controlled kiln to ensure their lasting strength and durability. I take great care in cleaning, inspecting, and packaging each bead with the same attention to detail that goes into making them. I hope you enjoy using them in your own unique designs!
A little bit about lampwork beads and why they are so special…
Lampwork beads are handmade glass beads created through a centuries-old technique known as lampworking. In this process, colorful glass rods are melted using a special torch, and the molten glass is wound around a steel rod to form the basic shape of the bead. Once formed, the beads are embellished with various techniques and materials, making each bead unique and one-of-a-kind.
The term “lampwork” comes from the historical use of oil lamps as a heat source in the beadmaking process. While modern torches are now used, the name continues to honor this traditional technique.
To ensure the beads are strong and durable, they are cooled in a kiln where the temperature is carefully regulated. The beadmaker “soaks” the beads at a high temperature to ensure the glass is evenly heated, then gradually reduces the temperature over several hours. This process, called kiln annealing, makes the beads both strong and long-lasting, ready to be used in your jewelry designs.
